Set across five handsome Victorian mansions, The Laslett is possibly the least hotel-like hotel we've ever clapped eyes on, and it's the loveliest too. The 51 bedrooms look and feel like the guest rooms of your super-stylish friend's (we all have one of those, don't we?) and are a masterclass in effortless townhouse chic. Let's take a tour…

Continuing the home-from-home vibe, rooms are categorised into bijoux 'spare rooms', 'double bedrooms' and spacious 'master bedrooms'. All are elegantly decked out in a palette of gorgeous greys including Grey Steel 2 and Night Jewels 4, giving just the right balance between hip and homely. Art is a big feature of the room styling – varying shapes and sizes of framed prints are creatively displayed on walls, along with curiosities from nearby Portobello Road and books specially curated for bedtime reading.

Make like the Laslett and give your own mini-gallery a go on your bedroom walls using your favourite prints and photographs. Keep your chosen artworks to a single colour palette (with the odd dash of colour, of course) for a sophisticated feel – but don't be afraid to be playful with scale and the composition of your arrangement. Try John Lewis' House range of frames in a few different finishes for a pick 'n' mix look (from £5).

Toiletries by Neal's Yard Remedies – check; classic metro tiles and checkerboard floors – check; extra roomy baths and vanity sinks – check! The Laslett's monochrome bathrooms are made for pampering with their sleek and urbane look – we'd happily while away a fair few hours in these beauties.

For similar grey metro tiles, try Walls and Floors' Porte Malliot Crackle Tiles (£32.95 per sq m). Give your bathroom the same attention to detail as you would any other room by adding house plants and framed artwork for a lived-in look. But beware – you may just turn into a bathroom hog.

If you manage to prise yourself away from your sumptuous bedroom and bathroom, there are plenty of delights downstairs too. The ground floor of the hotel is touted to be the next local hotspot, and we can see the appeal for guests and locals alike – plush wingback chairs and polished parquet floors set the scene for more artworks and vintage oddities in the Library Lounge, while the adjacent The Shop at The Laslett will sell textiles, art prints and Neal’s Yard Remedies products as-seen-in-room. So taking a little piece of the hotel home with you will be a cinch.

Find a vintage-style bar trolly à la Laslett from Out There Interiors and kick back, cocktail in hand, in a suitably dapper wingback armchair – try Ikea's Strandmon chair (£195). Now all you need is your own personal bartender to mix your drinks. Rooms from £215, suites from £315.
